Nestled on Mulholland Drive, Joaquin Phoenix’s primary home was purchased by the actor back in 2006 for $4.8 million. The estate spans 3,754 square feet and features 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. Unfortunately, there are no interior photos of the home available currently.

These satellite photos of the exterior, however, seems to indicate the home may be undergoing renovations since most of the backyard has been torn up and the pool is empty.

The estate, which was purchased with a trust in his sister’s name, is located just across the street from the second home he purchased in the area from a neighbor.

The spacious living room features a large brick fireplace as well as wood floors and a connecting dining area. In the kitchen, you’ll find red wood cabinetry, stainless steel appliances, and an island with bar seating.

After seeing Joaquin’s stellar performance as Arthur Fleck (aka The Joker), Director Ridley Scott felt that Phoenix would be perfect for the role in his newest project. If you’re a movie nerd, like this writer, you may remember this actually isn’t the first time this famed director and actor have worked together.

Joaquin played the baddie, Commodus, in Scott’s massively successful film, “Gladiator” (2000). Given the performance that Phoenix delivered in that film, it’s no surprise he was the prime candidate for Scott’s “Napoleon” project.

The couple married within a year after meeting and continued to travel together and start a family. Needing to make money, the family began performing music and skits on the streets for cash, including the children. This hustle would end up proving successful – since they not only generated income from it, but also generated attention that would lead to careers in showbusiness.

Looking for acceptance with like-minded people, Arlyn, John, and their children would end up briefly joining the controversial religious cult known as Children of God.

Joaquin defended his parents’ decision during a 2014 interview, saying:

“Cults rarely advertise themselves as such. I think my parents found a community that shared their ideals.” He continues “…the moment my parents realized there was something more to it, they got out.”
