John Cena's Houses in Land O' Lakes and West Newbury

John Cena lives in Land O' Lakes, Florida, an unincorporated Pasco County community north of Tampa, and he has owned his house there since the winter of 2004 into 2005. He was a new WWE headliner when he bought it. By the time he wrestled his last match, against Gunther in Washington, D.C., on December 13, 2025, Tampa Bay's WTSP was still calling him a Tampa Bay-area resident. Before any of that, he was one of five boys in West Newbury, Massachusetts, a farming town near the New Hampshire line.

We first wrote about his houses in December 2019, in a piece that spent half its length on his cars. This version drops the garage and follows the paperwork instead: the deeds, the building filings, and one detail in the county's file we have not seen reported anywhere else.

“The West Newbury of Tampa”

In June 2007, home in Massachusetts for a charity wrestling card, Cena explained to the Eagle-Tribune why Florida had stuck. “I've found a place, and my dad can vouch for me, that is legitimately the West Newbury of Tampa,” he said, a small town where everybody knows everybody's business.

The Pasco County Clerk's official records put a date on when he found it. The deed to the house was signed in October 2004, and a buyer named John F. Cena recorded it in January 2005, in the same week as a second deed for the empty lot next door. One of the closing papers from that fall gives the buyer's mailing address as a house in West Newbury, Massachusetts. The recorded closing papers also place the house inside a planned development with its own owners association, which is the town-within-a-town he was describing to his hometown paper.

Then there is the detail we have not seen in print. Two of the recorded instruments from that purchase, one signed in October 2004 and the other nine days later, were not witnessed by a Florida notary. Each carries an acknowledgment, the official statement that a signer appeared in person and proved who he was, taken before a justice of the peace in the Australian state of Victoria. Both documents agree on it independently. Neither says why he was there.

The county's name index shows what came next. From 2006 to 2020, Pasco County logged building filings under the Cena name for pool work, fireplaces, carpentry, and solar. These are the notices an owner files before a contractor starts a sizable job, and some of them cover the lot next door as well as the house, so the second parcel did not stay empty.

The local press never had much doubt about where he lived. After he beat The Rock for the WWE title at WrestleMania 29 in April 2013, Land O' Lakes Patch wrote that the jet-setting champion “does call Land O' Lakes home,” and that Cena sightings around town were common enough to be unremarkable. The Tampa Bay Times has called him a Land O'Lakes resident in its own coverage of his WWE returns.

The Tampa house on television

For a few years the Florida house was on cable. The reality series Total Bellas set its first season, in 2016, in Tampa, with Nikki Bella, Cena's girlfriend and then fiancée, sharing the home with him, and her twin sister Brie and Brie's husband, Daniel Bryan, moving in. The couple called off their engagement in April 2018. In the season four premiere, which Entertainment Tonight covered in January 2019, Bella went back to Tampa to move her belongings out of what the show called John Cena's house. Moving her things out, she said on camera, “makes it closure.”

The show called it his Tampa house. Nothing in the county's file ties a particular episode to a particular parcel, and we do not either.

West Newbury, where it started

The Massachusetts half of this story is older. Essex County land records show his parents buying their West Newbury land on July 20, 1978, when he was 14 months old, and the town assessor dates the colonial they built on it to 1979. It is still in the family, according to the assessor's card, and it was still where his mail went in 2004, when he was closing on Florida.

Cena has described the town of his childhood in movie terms. “Your neighbor is acres away, and you got to ride bikes everywhere,” he said on Amy Poehler's podcast in July 2026, as the Boston Globe reported. “It was like out of a movie. It was like ‘Goonies.’” The Eagle-Tribune's 2007 profile found the wrestling in the basement. He and his four brothers each had their own special moves and holds, and they body slammed one another on the cement floor.

He kept a hand in the town. On the same podcast, as WrestleZone reported, Cena said he spent about two years having a house built in West Newbury for his mother, with a brother who worked as a contractor doing the building while the family was told the land was for his own move home. He handed her the keys at a Thanksgiving gathering, and when she protested, he told her the movers were already booked for the next morning. That house is a separate property, and we do not map it.

The San Diego chapter

In May 2018, the network that aired the show reported on its own site that Cena and Bella had bought a home in San Diego, and the third season of Total Bellas opened with the two of them decorating it. That premiere aired a month after the engagement had ended. We have not found a record of what became of that house, or a reputable report of a sale, so it gets no address and no map pin here. The city is as far as the record goes.
