Architectural Digest was given the full tour of the home’s interior by the Downey’s back in 2017 and it didn’t disappoint. The 19th-century windmill folly was originally a playhouse that was later transformed into a full-fledged residence when additions were added.

Designer Joe Nahem, a family friend, was the one who actually introduced the couple to the unique piece of real estate. After showing Mr. and Mrs. Downey the home, the couple fell in love with it and made the purchase in 2016 for $10.5 million.

The New York City-based Fox Nahem team was then tasked with a mere 6 weeks to renovate the 7-bedroom abode before the family moved in.

As part of the renovations, the living room was sunk by several feet and the fireplace underwent a makeover. With the help of ceramic artist Peter Lane, the fireplace was given an intricate ceramic front that really completes the room.

Beyond the living room is the colorful octagonal foyer with stairs that lead up to Mrs. Downey’s office at the top of the windmill. Oh, and for those wondering – the windmill was meant to resemble a local windmill; it was never functional.

Some amenities include a 3-car garage, tennis court, putting green, and 50-foot pool. Additionally, there’s even a 2-bedroom guest house and a spacious pavilion on the 4-acre property. The pavilion, near the pool area, alone features a dining space, outdoor living room, television, and bar.

Oh, and if all that’s not cool enough – there’s also a gorgeous view of the ocean from the home’s several verandas!

His part-time residence, the Robert Downey Jr home in Malibu was purchased by the actor back in 2009 for $13.4 million. The massive 7+ acre property includes a main house as well as a uniquely shaped secondary structure near the pool area.
