Anderson Cooper's Casa Anderson, Trancoso

Trancoso, BA

The Story

Casa Anderson is the 4-building holiday compound that CNN anchor Anderson Cooper had built in Trancoso, a village on Brazil’s Bahia coast. Architectural Digest profiled it in its August 2016 issue.

With help from hotelier Wilbert Das, Cooper secured one of the rare vacant lots in Trancoso’s historic center: a long strip planted with mango, cacao, jackfruit, and banana trees.

Das, Diesel’s former creative director, built the compound’s 4 buildings, with the living and dining room in the main one. He laid out the grounds with Brazilian landscape designer Juliana Favarato.

The compound’s treehouse holds the main suite above an open-air living room and bar. Following local custom, Architectural Digest wrote, the estate goes by the name Casa Anderson.

Cooper first came to Trancoso on holiday in 2013, with his friend Andy Cohen. “Within a day I was fantasizing about buying a house there,” he told Architectural Digest.

Writing in August 2026, an Orange County Register travel writer described a short path through mangrove forest that runs from near the house to a beach club.

The grounds are private, but anyone can book the whole house through UXUA Alma. The operator says its garden runs back from the historic center to preserved Atlantic rainforest.
