Audrey Hepburn's House (former)

Actress who won the 1954 best actress Oscar for Roman Holiday and starred in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. From 1989 she worked as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, with field missions to Ethiopia and Somalia.

Switzerland’s federal building register carries the house under its own name, La Paisible, and dates it to before 1919. Coverage of the 2025 sale places its origins in the 18th century, as a farmhouse.

The main building was renovated in 2001, when a modern kitchen and an elevator went in.

Tolochenaz kept its farming vocation until the motorway went through and turned its fields over to industry and housing. The village grew from 341 residents after the war to about 1,700.

Hepburn owned the house from 1963 to 1993. Her sons sold it in 2001, and the buyers put it back on the market in 2025.

A volunteer-run museum in the village showed one of her Oscars and costumes from Breakfast at Tiffany’s, on a 6-year loan from her sons. It raised nearly SFr400,000 for children’s charities.

She died at the house on January 20, 1993, and is buried in the village cemetery. About 5,000 people a year visit the grave, two-thirds of them from Japan.
