Bill Gates's House (former)

Microsoft's co-founder, who wrote the company's first product with Paul Allen in 1975 and ran it as chief executive until 2000. Most of his work since has been philanthropy.

English investors bought the 4,000 acres of barrier island off Hobe Sound for pineapple growing in 1892. Joseph Reed took control of the development company in 1934, and his family held it until 1996.

In 1969 island residents bought 73 acres of dune and reef from a developer who wanted density there, then handed the land to The Nature Conservancy. Nathaniel Reed was among them.

Gates bought here in 2009 through an investment entity called Front Range Investment Holdings, which held the place for 9 years.

He let it go in 2018 for less than he had paid. The buyer was media executive John Textor, whose ventures run from the streaming service fuboTV to Eagle Football Holdings.

Textor renovated the house and brought it back to the market in April 2025 at nearly 6 times what he gave Gates for it.

The ocean side of the island holds the largest Anastasia limestone shoreline on the Atlantic coast. At high tide in rough seas the waves force water up to 50 feet through gaps in the rock.
