The county assessor dates the ranch house to 1952 and records its lot, nearly three-quarters of an acre, as part of an old subdivision of Rancho Providencia.

Rancho Providencia began as a Mexican land grant. Dentist David Burbank bought 9,000 acres of it in 1867; the land was later cut into 10 to 40 acre farms, and some of it was annexed to Glendale.

Leona Lewis, the X Factor winner behind “Bleeding Love,” bought the place in 2013 for $1.2M. Variety says it was dubbed River Ranch and backs up to a concrete canal that feeds the Los Angeles River.

Lewis sold in fall 2019 to a 17-year-old Billie Eilish, months after her debut album came out. Variety put the price at $2.25M; Hello magazine and the New York Post say $2.3M.

On “NDA,” from her 2021 album Happier Than Ever, Eilish sings about the house she bought at 17 and the parties she has not thrown since. Hello magazine ties the line to this ranch.

In the surrounding Riverside Rancho, horses live in backyard stables under an equine zoning overlay. A 2017 bid to rezone its 1930s Silver Spur Stables for 21 condos was withdrawn after neighbors objected.
