Cam Newton's House

Quarterback the Carolina Panthers took with the top pick in 2011, a year after his Heisman season at Auburn. He was the NFL’s MVP in 2015 and led Charlotte to Super Bowl 50.

A century ago this uptown lot held a hotel that later became bank offices. A local savings and loan razed it in the mid 1960s for a modernist headquarters with, per NC Rabbit Hole, distinctly Japanese overtones.

Freeman-White Associates designed the 7-story International Style building, and Juno Construction finished it in 1967. The National Park Service added it to the National Register of Historic Places in January 2008.

Developer Jim Donnelley turned the old bank into condominiums in 2008 and gave it a new name. “We won’t have any lower-priced units,” he said in 2006, as NC Rabbit Hole recounts.

Mecklenburg County’s tax roll counts 7 condominium homes on the building’s upper floors. Newton’s family company, Agape Property Management Group, bought one in April 2012 and is still the owner of record.

In 2015, as the Panthers opened their Super Bowl season, Newton bought a second unit in the same building. He planned to sell that one in June 2020, WSOC reported, then leased it out instead.

LaMelo Ball, the Hornets’ young point guard, rented that second unit from 2020. Ball’s company bought it from Newton’s in May 2024, per the county tax roll, WSOC, and the Charlotte Observer.
