Cher's House (former)
Beverly Hills, CA
The Story
Singer and actor since the 1960s, from “I Got You Babe” with Sonny Bono in 1965 to “Believe” in 1998. She won the best actress Oscar for Moonstruck in 1988.
The county roll dates the house to 1957, when this canyon lane north of Beverly Hills was filling in fast. Of the 16 houses it lists on the lane, 14 went up between 1952 and 1960.
The mailing address reads Beverly Hills, but the county taxes the parcel as City of Los Angeles land. It was never a tract lot either: survey bearings from a neighboring subdivision’s corner mark its edges.
Before Cher, the house belonged to Ed O’Neill, later the family patriarch on Modern Family, from 1996 to 2007, according to Cottages & Gardens. He bought it the year before Married with Children ended its run.
Cher bought it in 2013, after her stint performing in Las Vegas, Galerie reported. She filled the English-style rooms under their timber beams with colorful furniture, big oak dining tables, and a centerpiece of antlers.
She listed it in July 2018, the month the Mamma Mia sequel reached theaters with her arriving by helicopter to sing opposite Andy Garcia, Galerie noted. She was 72.
Cher kept the house for about 5 years. The county roll dates her sale to 2019, and the property tax base it still carries was set by that change of ownership.
