Colin Kaepernick's House (former)

New York, NY

The Story

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback who started in Super Bowl XLVII after the 2012 season. In 2016 he began kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial inequality.

The building began as a 6-story warehouse in the mid-1800s. CityRealty’s Carter Horsley wrote in 2005 that its east wall stands windowless because the building was cut back for subway construction in 1927.

Mexican architect Enrique Norten and his firm, TEN Arquitectos, kept the old brick shell and threaded a glass addition through and above it. The firm’s project profile dates the finished conversion to 2008.

Kaepernick bought the condo in July 2016 through a family trust, according to Mansion Global via 6sqft. The deal closed weeks before his first anthem protest as a 49ers quarterback that August.

New York was his base in 2017, his first year as a free agent. His trainer, Josh Hidalgo, told The MMQB Kaepernick worked out at a city gym 5 hours a day, 5 days a week.

Kaepernick put the condo up for sale in 2024, and Tribeca Citizen noted it that April. It sold for less than he paid, according to property records the New York Post cited in January 2026.

In 1974 The New York Times reported illegal loft living in the old Washington Market warehouses, much like early SoHo. By 1976 the paper was calling the district TriBeCa, though it admitted nobody loved the name.
