Colin Kaepernick's House (former)

San Jose, CA

The Story

Quarterback who took the San Francisco 49ers to Super Bowl XLVII. In 2016 he knelt during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial inequality, and never played in the NFL again.

This is a Spanish-style house behind a gate in the foothills of southeast San Jose, per the San Francisco Chronicle’s 2017 roundup of Bay Area celebrity sales.

Below these hills, the Evergreen valley began as Mexican-era Rancho Yerba Buena land. The Edwards family started ranching there in 1872, and their ledgers now sit at History San Jose.

Kaepernick bought it in 2014, during his run as the 49ers’ starter, and remodeled it while he owned it. The San Francisco Chronicle and SocketSite both reported the remodel.

He put the house up for sale at the start of December 2016, with the season still running and an opt-out in his contract. A team spokesman called it “an investment decision.”

The sale closed in February 2017, after he had already bought a condo in New York, per SocketSite. He opted out of his 49ers contract the next month.

Kaepernick had 49ers company in these foothills. Tight end Vernon Davis, traded away in 2015, sold his own house in southeast San Jose’s hills that winter, according to Fox News.
