Cristiano Ronaldo's House (former)

Alderley Edge, England

The Story

Cristiano Ronaldo is the Portuguese forward who won 3 Premier League titles and the 2008 Champions League with Manchester United. He left for Real Madrid in 2009 for what was then a world-record fee.

HM Land Registry dates Ronaldo's purchase of this house to 2 October 2007, early in his 5th season at United. It was his Cheshire home for less than 2 years before the Madrid move.

In August 2009 the village site AlderleyEdge.com relayed a Sun report that Manchester City's new signing, Emmanuel Adebayor, had bought the house. The Land Registry records no sale for almost a decade after that.

Ronaldo kept the house after moving to Spain and let it out. Luke Shaw, United's teenage left-back signed from Southampton in 2014, became his tenant that year, according to Peru's RPP and Indonesia's Popmama.

Ronaldo, by then a Juventus player, sold the house in spring 2019, and the Land Registry dates the sale to 5 April. It fetched less than he had paid in 2007.

Alderley Edge was a hamlet until the 1840s, Cheshire East Council notes. A railway company then promoted it to Manchester merchants, 12 miles away, as one of the world's earliest leafy retreats.

Cotton families built mansions and villas on the slopes of the Edge and became known as “the Cottentots,” the Derbyshire Caving Club's local history notes. Those hillside houses were among the North West's first conservation areas.
