David Bromstad's House

David Bromstad won the first season of HGTV’s Design Star in 2006, then spent 5 years hosting Color Splash before taking over My Lottery Dream Home in 2015.

The house began as a traditional Tudor with a white and brown stucco facade before Bromstad reworked it, keeping the Tudor details on the exterior while adding pink accents.

The surrounding Waterbridge neighborhood sits on what used to be orange and grapefruit groves, later platted into the tree-lined streets that have stood for more than 45 years.

Bromstad bought the house in 2021 expecting only light updates, then gutted it completely once the work began. He later called the four-year renovation “a love letter to myself.”

Bromstad calls the pink “a representation of who I was and the person that I’ve become through my sobriety,” tying the color to his own recovery.

The city approved a large addition in 2022, partway through the four-year renovation. The finished home aired in December 2025 as the HGTV special “David’s Happy Ending.”

Lake Berry is one of 3 lakes near David Mizell Jr.’s 1858 homestead, the first settlement in what became Winter Park. The resort town was platted in 1881 by Loring Chase and Oliver Chapman.
