Denzel Washington's House

Actor and director who won Oscars for Glory in 1990 and Training Day in 2002, the second making him the first Black best-actor winner since Sidney Poitier. He added a Tony in 2010 for Fences.

Beverly Park sits on land earmarked for a golf course and country club to be named for Dean Martin. Developers Elliot Gottfurcht and Brian Adler began it in the late 1970s and finished the gated, 250-acre enclave in 1990.

County records show this lot was mapped in October 1988, changed hands in 1996, and got its finished house in 1999. It is taxed as City of Los Angeles land despite the Beverly Hills mailing address.

Washington and his wife, Pauletta, bought the land in 1996 from Disney chairman Michael Eisner and his wife, Jane, per Architectural Digest. It now holds a 4-story main house, a guesthouse by the pool, and a tennis court.

The Washingtons did not buy a finished mansion. PureWow says they began building on an empty lot in the late 1990s, most of a decade after the enclave’s developers wrapped up.

Neighbors inside the gates have included Eddie Murphy, Sylvester Stallone, and Rod Stewart, per a 2023 Hilton & Hyland guide. North Beverly Park runs to bigger lots than the single-entrance South side.

Washington is a member of West Angeles Church of God in Christ, whose cathedral at 3600 Crenshaw Boulevard was dedicated in 1999, the year his Beverly Park house was finished.
