Dr. Dre's House
Los Angeles, CA
The Story
Dr. Dre, born Andre Young in Compton, co-founded N.W.A and cut The Chronic in 1992, then launched Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar. Apple paid about $3B for his Beats headphone company in 2014.
Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen built the house, not Dre. They bought the 4-acre parcel in 2008 and put up architect Richard Landry's limestone French chateau from 2009 to 2011.
The couple built green: reclaimed ceiling beams, salvaged tile, gray-water irrigation, and 2 solar arrays that cover the property's electricity. A moat-style koi pond and a cobblestone motor court mark the way in.
The county's assessor created this parcel in 1992 as lot 3 of tract 37838. Its record card dates the finished house to 2011 and codes the view water, city, and canyon.
Dre bought the house from Brady and Bündchen in June 2014, days after Apple announced the Beats deal. A sale first surfaced in May; it was official by June 4.
In January 2021, with Dre at Cedars-Sinai for a possible brain aneurysm, a burglary ring targeted the house. Police first thought the crew was after Kamala Harris's home nearby; nothing was taken.
Nicole Young filed for divorce in June 2020 after 24 years of marriage. The December 2021 settlement paid her $100M, and Dre kept the Brentwood estate in the property split.
