The Story
Comedian and actor who went from Saturday Night Live in the early 1980s to Beverly Hills Cop, Coming to America, and The Nutty Professor. He voiced Donkey in Shrek in 2001, while the family owned this house.
Folsom Lake, the view from the house, is a reservoir. The Army Corps of Engineers began Folsom Dam in October 1948, first stored water in February 1955, and finished in May 1956, per the Bureau of Reclamation.
Eddie and his then-wife, Nicole, bought the estate in 1998, northeast of Sacramento with views over Folsom Lake. Active NorCal put the price at $3.8M.
Nicole kept the house when the marriage ended. It sold in 2007 for $6.1M, and CBS Sacramento reported in 2014 that the owner since then had used it for charity events.
Troy Stratos, a childhood friend, told Nicole he could sell the house to Middle Eastern royals and leased Rolls-Royces with her money to impress them. A federal complaint said no deal existed and he lived in it rent-free.
Stratos pleaded guilty in 2016 to federal fraud charges, including defrauding Nicole. That December a federal judge in Sacramento sentenced him to more than 21 years in prison.
The estate went to auction with no minimum bid on October 27, 2018, after failing to sell at $10M that year. Per the Sacramento Bee, 16 bidders took about 5 minutes and a Bay Area investor won.
