Elvis Presley's First House (Audubon Drive)

A ranch house in East Memphis, the first home Elvis Presley ever owned. Record executive Mike Curb bought it at auction in 2006 and gave it to Rhodes College's Mike Curb Institute for Music.

Elvis bought the house for $29,500, closing on March 12, 1956, and moved in with his parents, Gladys and Vernon, and his grandmother. The National Register of Historic Places listed it in 2006.

Within a year he put up a musical-note fence, enclosed the carport, built a den, remodeled the kitchen, and added a pool. In March 1957 he traded the house as part payment toward Graceland.

On April 22, 2017, an electrical fire between the living and dining rooms did extensive damage. The house was empty for repairs after a January pipe burst, and no Presley artifacts were inside.

You can see the whole house from the street, but it is not open to the public. Interior access comes only through Rhodes College programming such as the student-produced Audubon Sessions concerts.
