Harvey Levin's House (former)

Lawyer turned TV legal reporter who covered the O.J. Simpson trial for KCBS, then founded TMZ in 2005 and broke the news of Michael Jackson’s death.

Built in 1937, the Spanish villa sits above the street on a third of an acre behind high hedges and electric gates.

The street is named for Edward Doheny, whose 1892 oil strike near Echo Park set off the Southern California petroleum boom.

Levin bought in 1998 and added his longtime partner, Andy Maurer, to the deed almost at once. He kept the place 17 years.

By February 2015 it was up for rent at $20,000 a month, and the pitch leaned on gates, hedges, and no sightlines from above. Privacy, from the man who runs TMZ.

He sold in 2015. Melanie Griffith bought it in spring 2019 and kept it 5 years before selling off market.
