James Charles's House (former)

Beauty YouTuber and makeup artist who became CoverGirl’s first male ambassador in 2016, at 17, after his senior portraits went viral. His Morphe eyeshadow palette followed in November 2018.

This is a 2016 build. The city issued a demolition permit for the earlier house on the lot, with its attached garage, in January 2016, and permitted the 2-story replacement and its pool within weeks.

Variety’s 2019 report called it a Cape Cod-style house in an “unfashionable pocket” of Encino. It sold new in 2016 and went up for rent in 2018, the same report said.

Charles was a tenant here, not an owner. Variety put the rent at $17,000 a month in 2019; its 2020 follow-up, citing records, said $15,000.

In an episode posted in February 2019, the Mr Kate design team made over the entry for its “OMG We’re Coming Over” series. The palette stayed black and white, with safety-pin details nodding to his signature earring.

Charles moved on in early 2020, when Variety reported he paid $7M in an off-market deal for a brand-new Encino house of his own.

Encino takes its name from the oaks: the 1769 Portolá expedition named the valley for them. A short drive west, Los Encinos State Historic Park keeps the old spring and the pond Eugene Garnier built in 1874.
