Joel Osteen's House

Houston, TX

The Story

Joel Osteen has led Lakewood Church, one of the largest congregations in the country, since 1999, when he took over after his father and founding pastor, John Osteen, died. His sermons reach millions on television.

The house sits in Tall Timbers, a River Oaks enclave that began as developer Mike Hogg’s weekend camp. Hogg folded it into River Oaks in 1924 with partner Hugh Potter.

Harris County tax records list the structure standing on the lot today as built in 2008, under a prior owner, years before Osteen bought the house.

The Osteens moved from a smaller Tanglewood home to this River Oaks address in 2010. Title sits with Covenant Current Trust rather than either spouse, so the property carries no homestead exemption.

That same year, the family put a vacant lot next to their old Tanglewood house up for sale, trimming its price from $1.4M to $1.1M before it sold.
