John Travolta's House

Actor who broke out as disco king Tony Manero in Saturday Night Fever in 1977, then came roaring back with Pulp Fiction in 1994. He is also a licensed pilot qualified to fly a Boeing 707.

Before the jets, Muriel Vanderbilt Adams bred thoroughbreds here in the 1960s and 1970s. Nautilus inventor Arthur Jones bought the ranch in 1980 and built the runway, and Terri Thayer later made it the Jumbolair fly-in community.

John's slice of it came straight from the Thayers. Marion County Clerk records show they deeded the land to his trust in March 2001, when it was still vacant ground.

John and his late wife, actress Kelly Preston, built here, and the county dates the house to 2003. The Marion County Property Appraiser carries the 19-acre parcel in a trust, in care of his film company.

Architect Dana Smith designed the midcentury-style house around the planes, with curved glass walls facing the jet parking. House Digest, citing Architectural Digest, says it took 6 years to plan and 2 to build.

The runway has pulled John into court more than once. In 2007 he sued the owners of Greystone Airport, claiming they wrongly told the FAA the strip could not support heavy aircraft, the Associated Press reported.

In January 2024 his trust sued the community's newest developers in Marion County court, according to the Ocala Gazette. At issue: a runway weight limit and the approach lights the trust installed in 2002.
