LeBron James's House

LeBron James grew up in Akron and went straight from high school to the Cavaliers as the 2003 draft’s top pick. He has won 4 titles and became the NBA’s all-time leading scorer in 2023.

The surrounding township was organized in 1818 and joined the newly formed Summit County in 1840. It credits settler Jonathan Hale with its name: he wanted “anything but Hammondsburgh.”

Despite its Akron address, the county taxes this parcel in the township, not the city. Its allotment’s other houses date mostly to 1976 to 1979, and replatted, this lot covers about 7 acres.

James bought 5.5 acres here in 2003, as an 18-year-old Cavaliers rookie. Patch reported that he later tore down the house already standing on the land.

The mansion that replaced it was finished in 2007, a year Architectural Digest and the county record agree on. Inside are a 2-lane bowling alley, a recording studio, a barbershop, and an aquarium.

In 2006 James added the neighboring parcel, which came with its own house. Summit County Council later let him merge the 2 into a single lot, according to Patch.

Plans approved by the township’s zoning appeals board in early 2013 called for a 1-story garage on the added land for collector cars, memorabilia, and a showroom. Illes Architects of Medina drew them.

The county’s owner of record is an LLC, not James. It mails the tax bills to the office suite that also gets them for the LeBron James Family Foundation’s Akron holdings, House Three Thirty among them.
