Leonardo DiCaprio's House

Actor on screen since 1989, from Titanic in 1997 to The Revenant, which won him the Best Actor Oscar in 2016. He bought this house in 2014 as a Best Actor nominee for an earlier film.

Singer and TV host Dinah Shore commissioned the house from Donald Wexler, a Richard Neutra alumnus, in 1964. A California State Parks release in 2019 called it one of the largest single-family residences of his long career.

Wexler set the pinwheel-plan house diagonally on its lot under a flat roof and walls of glass. The guesthouse came first, in 1963, as Shore’s art studio and her lodging while the main house went up.

The nomination names it for Shore and her then-husband, Maurice Smith. Her earlier husband, actor George Montgomery, built a 1952 Movie Colony house with her before their 1962 divorce, per Palm Springs Life.

Shore owned it only briefly, according to the Palm Springs Modern Committee. Broadway composer Jerry Herman owned it later, and so did David Lee, a co-creator of Frasier and Wings.

Old Las Palmas was a citrus grove until Prescott Stevens subdivided it in the mid-1920s. Studio contracts kept stars within 2 hours of Hollywood, which made the neighborhood a celebrity haven, the Coachella Valley Independent wrote in 2026.

According to Atomic Ranch, Kirk Douglas lived next door, and a connecting gate once joined the 2 properties.

DiCaprio had it up for rent by March 2015 at $4,500 a night, ABC7 reported, and barred groups with members under 25. Architectural Digest said in 2025 he still owns it and it was still available to rent.
