Loretta Lynn's Ranch (Hillman-Anderson plantation house)

Country singer Loretta Lynn's white-columned farmhouse at Hurricane Mills, about 65 miles west of Nashville. The Lynns bought it, and the mill town around it, in 1966 and made it a museum in 1988.

George Hillman began the 2-story frame house about 1876, and James Anderson finished it by about 1916. It anchors the Hurricane Mills Rural Historic District, listed on the National Register on December 13, 1999.

Inside and out, the farmhouse played itself in the 1980 film Coal Miner's Daughter, shot in Tennessee and Kentucky from March to May 7, 1979. The 1911 truss bridge and old church appear too.

Lynn died in her sleep at her home on the ranch on October 4, 2022, aged 90. She is buried on the property beside Mooney.

Lynn and ranch staff have described a lady in white on the balcony, tied by family lore to Beula Anderson, an old man resembling James Anderson, and Civil War soldiers buried on the grounds.

The earliest telling is Lynn's own. The Clio history project traces the ghost stories to her 1976 autobiography, Coal Miner's Daughter, written with George Vecsey, 12 years before the house opened for tours.

The $20 guided tour takes in the Butcher Holler replica cabin and the mansion home. The Coal Miner's Daughter Museum is a separate $20, or $35 combined, closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
