Mark Zuckerberg's House

Mark Zuckerberg co-founded Facebook from his Harvard dorm room in 2004 and still runs its parent company, Meta, as CEO. He was 28 when the company went public in 2012.

Zuckerberg bought this West Shore lakefront in 2 deals through an LLC: the smaller estate in December 2018, then Tamara Fritz’s larger one next door in January 2019. The agents signed nondisclosure agreements.

The smaller estate came from the heirs of Woodside investment banker Robert Quist. Its Tudor-style main house dated to the early 1930s and shared the lot with caretaker’s quarters, 2 buoys, and a yacht-sized pier.

Adventure novelist Stewart Edward White bought the larger parcel in the 1920s, named it Brushwood after a Rudyard Kipling story, and wrote there in summer from canvas-walled yurts. Richard and Ruth Shainwald bought it in 1927.

The Wall Street Journal broke the story in May 2019, 2 days after Zuckerberg spoke at a Facebook conference in front of a giant screen reading “The future is private.”

A 2022 letter from the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency cleared his LLC to tear down the smaller estate, Business Insider reported. Placer County assessor data for 2026 gives that lot no construction year.

The San Francisco Standard reported in June 2024 that those 1930s buildings were gone. Plans keep the larger estate’s main house and cottage and add 8 structures, among them an L-shaped family house and a lakeside spa.
