Michael Bay's House

Michael Bay is the director behind The Rock, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, and 5 Transformers films released from 2007 to 2017. He came up through commercials and music videos before his first feature, Bad Boys, in 1995.

Before Bay, this lot held a 1951 mid-century modern house owned by Earle Jorgensen, a member of Ronald Reagan’s kitchen cabinet. Jorgensen died in 1999, 10 years before Bay bought the lot.

Bay bought the property in 2009 and had the 1951 house torn down. Miami architect Chad Oppenheim designed the replacement, and Los Angeles firm Rios Clementi Hale Studios carried out the design.

Oppenheim’s firm dug the house into the hillside on 3 levels, with the city below and the valleys behind. Of its 2 pools, the longer runs almost 300 feet with a glass edge.

The county assessor’s roll dates the finished house to 2013, 4 years after Bay bought the lot. The same record places the parcel in the city’s RE40 residential estate zone.

The house holds a 50-seat theater and a prop museum, where the Bumblebee car from Transformers sits on a turntable set flush with the floor. Construction took nearly 4 years.

Bay’s 2026 lawsuit says that in September 2024, with him out of state, a Cadillac jumped the curb, tore through the gate fence and hedges, and knocked down a streetlight. He puts repairs at more than $93,000.
