Oprah Winfrey's House

Oprah Winfrey hosted the highest-rated daytime talk show in American television history, 25 seasons out of Chicago from 1986 to 2011. She started O, The Oprah Magazine in 2000 and the OWN network in 2011.

The main house and nearly every structure around it carry a 2007 build year in the county's improvement record. An older cluster on the same parcel, including a detached garage, dates to 1999.

Madroneagle is 2 parcels that run to about 41 acres together, and the county classifies both as carrying a conservation easement. Close to 13 of those acres are assessed as waterfront.

Orcas farmed for a living by 1895, then lost that trade to mainland competition and turned to tourism. Shipbuilder Robert Moran gave the state 2,731 island acres in 1921, and it became Moran State Park.

Oprah's house from 2018 to 2021. She bought it from Kathleen Dickinson and Ron McDowell in May 2018 through 2 companies, Madrona Tree LLC and Seed Money LLC, then consolidated both parcels that September.

She never settled in. A remodel started and then stopped, and her broker, Wally Gudgell, said she and her business partner “were never going to be able to use it properly.”

Oprah's company sold both parcels on July 19, 2021 to a Delaware entity called Lophodytes LLC. The county lists a statutory warranty deed out of Madrona Tree LLC for each one.
