Oprah Winfrey's House

Oprah Winfrey taped 25 seasons of her daytime talk show in Chicago, from September 1986 to May 2011. In 2003 she became the first Black woman on the Forbes billionaire list.

The house went up in 1919 to a design by James Osborne Craig, a Glasgow-born architect who trained at London's Royal Academy Schools. He died in Ojai in April 1922.

Craig is better known for El Paseo, the Santa Barbara arcade that became the model for Southern California's outdoor malls. His widow, Mary McLaughlin Craig, finished his work and built her own practice.

Santa Barbara County carries the parcel at 4.02 acres and still lists 1919 as the year built. The most recent deed on the assessor roll was recorded in October 2019.

Oprah's from 2019 to 2025. She bought the single story Spanish Revival compound from Jeff Bridges and folded the 4 acres into the ground around her Promised Land estate in Montecito.

She let it go in an off market deal that closed in early December 2025, 6 years after she took it on. Multiple guesthouses, a barn, and horse stables went with it.

Her Seamair Farm sits next door, 23 acres of horse property she won at a February 2016 auction, its first time on the market in nearly 40 years. Cliff May designed the main house.
