Rachel Maddow's House

Cummington, MA

The Story

Rachel Maddow hosts the weekly Rachel Maddow Show on MS NOW, the network that was MSNBC until a 2025 rebrand. She holds a doctorate in politics from Oxford, where she studied as a Rhodes Scholar.

West Cummington was one of 3 village centers the town grew around, its 1800s economy running on sawmills, tanneries, and small woolen and cotton mills powered by the streams nearby.

The farmhouse itself went up in 1869 in the Colonial style, its wood paneling and multiple fireplaces original to that build.

Maddow and her partner, Susan Mikula, hired architect Nicole Migeon to add a freestanding bathhouse behind the main house, built from sustainably grown cedar to hold a hot tub and an extra washroom.

The bathhouse holds the property’s lone television along with a linen closet and a chandelier by lighting designer Lindsey Adelman, according to photos Maddow later shared online.

The poet William Cullen Bryant, Cummington’s best known native son, kept a family home a few miles away that is preserved today as a public museum.
