Robert De Niro's Montauk House

Oceanfront Montauk property owned by Robert De Niro, star of Taxi Driver and Raging Bull. His father, a painter who shared his name, built a house here in the 1950s, per The Southampton Press.

Dan’s Papers and The Southampton Press describe about 1.4 to 1.5 acres of oceanfront bluff east of Hither Hills State Park, terraced into 3 levels, with a pool added in 1969.

In 1997 the zoning board denied De Niro’s bid for a large expansion, according to The Real Deal and Dan’s Papers. His 2017 plans called for a slightly smaller 2-story house on the same footprint.

On October 24, 2017, East Hampton’s zoning board cleared De Niro to demolish and rebuild slightly smaller on the same footprint, The Southampton Press reported. Variances let it sit nearer the bluff than code allows.

A private residence reached by a narrow flag-lot drive, on land that drops toward the ocean, per Dan’s Papers. There is no public access, so stay off the drive.
