Snoop Dogg's House (former)

Long Beach rapper whose 1993 debut, Doggystyle, went straight to the top of the Billboard 200 and gave the world “Gin and Juice.” It came out on Death Row Records when he was 22.

North Claremont was still citrus groves in 1965, according to the Claremont Courier’s history of the city’s growth. Building pushed north into the groves in the 1970s, and by 1983 the open land was all housing.

Los Angeles County’s assessor dates the house to 1989, so it was about 5 years old when Snoop bought it. It stands on a single foothill parcel of nearly an acre.

Snoop bought the Mediterranean-style house in 1994, the first home he ever owned, per Architectural Digest. He expanded it over the years, and by the end it held a recording studio and a home theater.

The Los Angeles Times reported in August 1996 that Snoop, his wife, their son, and a kennel of 20 pit bulls had settled in here after his murder trial ended in acquittal that February.

MTV Cribs filmed here in 2000. Snoop walked viewers through the formal rooms and out to his custom basketball court, decorated with the Lakers logo, according to Architectural Digest.

Snoop moved out in 2000 and sold in August 2007. Claremont police captain Gary Jenkins told the Claremont Courier there had been “regular parties, and they were loud,” and plenty of noise complaints.
