Mark Zuckerberg's House (former)

Mark Zuckerberg launched Facebook at Harvard in February 2004 and still runs the company, now Meta Platforms. He married Priscilla Chan in 2012, the same year Facebook went public.

San Francisco's assessor dates the house to 1928 and records a previous owner buying it in January 1997. Zuckerberg's purchase closed on November 14, 2012, and the 2014 roll shows the house a full story taller than before.

City building records show an application for a greenhouse, filed in January 2012, 10 months before Zuckerberg bought, and later cancelled. Newsweek's 2022 sale story still listed a greenhouse among his additions.

Permits filed from January 2013 to August 2015 covered a seismic upgrade, rear and side additions, fire sprinklers, and a slate roof and brick facade redone in kind. A 2014 permit legalized the 4th floor as living space.

By September 2014 the job had run 17 months with nearly 50 workers, CBS San Francisco reported. Neighbors described Saturday-morning jackhammers and 4 to 5 parking spaces blocked for crews, and one called it “ear-splitting construction.”

In February 2020, roughly 45 to 50 protesters, including the Raging Granny Action League, gathered outside the Dolores Heights house. They chalked “Wake the Zuck Up” on the sidewalk to protest Facebook's policy of running false political ads.

Zuckerberg sold off-market to a Delaware LLC in July 2022. The deal briefly ranked as the city's priciest home sale of the year, until a $34.5M Gold Coast mansion topped it, per The San Francisco Standard.
