Kittenish

Kittenish is country-pop singer Jessie James Decker’s clothing store in The Gulch. Her 2009 single “Wanted” went gold, and the reality show Eric & Jessie: Game On followed her and NFL receiver Eric Decker.

The neighborhood is a former railyard, the low rail cut that carried Nashville’s first locomotives in the 1850s. Union Station opened at its edge in 1900; the last passenger train left in 1978.

After decades of decline, MarketStreet Enterprises bought 25 acres of the railyard in 1999 and rebuilt it block by block. In 2009 The Gulch became the South’s first LEED-certified neighborhood.

Kittenish started online. This Gulch flagship, the brand’s first physical store, opened at noon on February 16, 2019: white-painted brick outside, a balloon mural and pink neon inside.

Decker, CEO and creative director, has had Kittenish since 2014; Eric is president. Forbes reported its first $1M sales month in 2020 and a second store in Destin, Florida.

Decker previewed the store on February 15, 2019, with a private launch party. Eric, her sister Cyndi Bass, and a crowd of friends and press got the first look at the racks.

Kelsey Montague’s “What Lifts You” angel wings went up next door in 2016, 16 feet wide and 23 feet tall. The feathers hold guitars, a cowboy hat, and barbecue; expect a photo line on weekends.
