Alex Rodriguez's House (former)
Malibu, CA
The Story
Alex Rodriguez played 22 major league seasons and hit 696 home runs, fourth on the all-time list when he retired in 2016. He won 3 American League MVP awards and a 2009 World Series with the Yankees.
Until the 1930s this shoreline was part of the Rindge family's ranch, which ran 25 miles along the Pacific. May Rindge fought the state to keep a highway off it, and her land company went bankrupt in 1936.
The house dates to 1949 and climbs 3 levels up from the sand. Entourage star Jeremy Piven bought it in 2004 and kept it for 15 years.
Fox Business describes it as Cape Cod-style, a New England look set down on a stretch of Pacific sand lined with celebrity houses. Big windows and terraces turn its rooms toward the ocean.
Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez bought it from Piven in early 2019, in a sale Bravo real estate star Madison Hildebrand handled for Piven. He had first put the house up for sale 2 years earlier.
Lopez told Ellen DeGeneres they had bought “a little fixer-upper next to the water.” Rodriguez set up a FaceTime with Joanna Gaines of Fixer Upper as an anniversary gift, and Gaines came to see the house that March.
Variety reported that they tore out much of the interior, and that the Gaines redesign apparently never came together. They sold the house in September 2020, about 2 months after putting it back up for sale.
