Alex Rodriguez & Jennifer Lopez's House (former)

New York, NY

The Story

Jennifer Lopez is a singer and actor whose run spans “Selena,” “On the Floor,” and “Hustlers.” Alex Rodriguez hit 696 home runs across 22 big-league seasons and won a World Series with the Yankees in 2009.

Before the tower, this corner held the Drake Hotel, built by the Bing & Bing firm in the 1920s and torn down in 2007. Rafael Viñoly designed the replacement, which rises nearly 1,400 feet.

In July 1973, during Led Zeppelin’s 3-night stand at Madison Square Garden, the band’s cash vanished from a safe-deposit box at the Drake. The rock site UCR puts the loss at $200,000 and notes the theft was never solved.

Lopez and Rodriguez bought the apartment new from the tower’s developers in February 2018 and sold it in June 2019, per city deed records. It has resold twice since, in 2021 and 2024, each time for less.

They put it back on the market in January 2019, less than a year after buying. 6sqft relayed the explanation: they loved the building, but with both families’ children together, the apartment was too small.

In November 2018, while the couple owned the unit, water got into the tower’s elevator shafts and shut them down for weeks, according to CooperatorNews.

In 2021 the condo board sued the developers, alleging more than 1,500 defects. Elevators slowed in high winds and trapped residents for hours, and the trash chute sounded “like a bomb,” per Fortune and the Daily Beast.
