Amy Schumer's House (former)
Brooklyn, NY
The Story
Stand-up comic who broke out with Inside Amy Schumer, the Comedy Central sketch show that won the Emmy for best sketch series in 2015. That same year she wrote and starred in the film Trainwreck.
The city’s landmarks survey dates this brick Federal row house to 1834 and names a doctor called Ostrander as its developer. It also notes that the mansard roof on top was a later addition.
The house was fought over in court in the 1880s. Owner Catharine Valentine’s family claimed a doctor, Herman Richardt, held “complete control and mastery” of her mind and got her to sign over the deed, according to Brownstoner.
Architect Edwards Rullman bought the house in 1961 and restored it over the decades that followed. He was instrumental in the 1965 designation that made Brooklyn Heights the city’s first historic district, his obituary says.
Moonstruck cast it as the Castorini family home in 1987. Roger Paradiso, who worked on the film, wrote in 2024 that the crew looked in Greenwich Village first and found nothing big enough.
Schumer and her husband, chef Chris Fischer, brought in Michael Van Valkenburgh, the landscape architect behind Brooklyn Bridge Park, to redo the garden. “We’ve definitely made it our own,” she told The Wall Street Journal.
Schumer bought the house in 2022 and sold it in late 2025, according to city records cited by 6sqft. She told The Wall Street Journal they were moving to be closer to their son’s school.
