Anderson Cooper's House (former)
Westhampton Beach, NY
The Story
Anderson Cooper has anchored his CNN hour, Anderson Cooper 360°, since 2003 and reported for 60 Minutes since 2007. His mother was the artist and heiress Gloria Vanderbilt.
Before Cooper, the house belonged to Budd Schulberg (1914 to 2009), the screenwriter who won an Academy Award for On the Waterfront. The property fronts Aspatuck Creek in the hamlet of Quiogue.
New York's tax parcel roll, which now lists a new owner, dates the house to 1998, while Dan's Papers put it at 1946 when it reported Cooper's purchase in January 2012.
Cooper bought it from Schulberg's estate in late 2011, next door to the creekside cottage he already owned. By October 2014 he had both up for sale and had cut this one's price once.
In 2014 Cooper put the renovated, professionally decorated house up as a summer rental, Memorial Day through Labor Day. Tenants could also take June, July, or August on its own.
Quiogue takes its name from a Native American word meaning “Little Quogue,” and Quogue itself meant “a shaking marsh.” The name first appears in Southampton town records in 1707, when Joseph Foster passed land to his son Daniel.
