Angelina Jolie's House

Angelina Jolie won a supporting-actress Oscar for Girl, Interrupted and went on to play Lara Croft and Maleficent. She spent 2 decades with the UN refugee agency, rising to Special Envoy in 2012.

Homer Laughlin bought this hill in 1890 and began planting 50,000 trees, shrubs, and other plants in 1902. The Laughlin Park Company filed the subdivision in early 1913, the year he died, with 40 lots planned.

Cecil DeMille, the director behind The Ten Commandments, bought the house in 1916. In 1920 he added the mansion next door, briefly leased by Charlie Chaplin, and lived on the joined grounds until his death in 1959.

The owners before Jolie spent 6 years restoring the house with architects Tichenor and Thorp, raising ceilings where they could. The kitchen and library grew into the former servants’ quarters.

The estate came up for sale in late March 2017 and went into contract within 3 weeks. The New York Post’s sources said Jolie wanted to make it her new home.

The Chaplin side was split off and sold in 1999, and the DeMille grounds have sat on a single county parcel since 2001. The last recorded change of ownership there is Jolie’s 2017 purchase.

Jolie put the estate up for sale in May 2026, 9 years after she bought it and 110 years after DeMille moved in. TMZ credited the original 1913 design to architect Cooper Corbett.
