Britney Spears's House (former)

Thousand Oaks, CA

The Story

Pop star since her 1998 debut single, with “Toxic” and “Womanizer” among the hits that followed. She bought this house while judging The X Factor in 2012 and opened her Las Vegas residency the next year.

Former NHL player Russ Courtnall and his wife, actress Paris Vaughan, owned the house, built in 2010, before she did. The Los Angeles Times reported the sale to Britney in late 2012, with the price undisclosed.

Ventura County's assessor roll splits the property into 2 parcels, one holding the house and one with no building. Together they come to about 1.42 acres, and both changed hands on a single deed in January 2022.

The pool picked up a beach entry and a waterfall during Britney's years here, the one change the Los Angeles Times credited to her when it covered the sale.

Britney put the house up for sale in April 2016, after she had already bought a larger estate about 4 miles away. That one, also in Thousand Oaks, has its own page on our map.

The house sold in February 2017, less than a year after it went up for sale. The Los Angeles Times put the final figure almost $2M under her starting price.

The lake at the center of this community took its name from Douglas Fairbanks's 1922 Robin Hood, which used its shore as Sherwood Forest. William Randolph Hearst kept a getaway here in the 1920s and 1930s.
