Bryan Singer's House (former)

Film director, active since the early 1990s, whose credits include The Usual Suspects, the first 2 X-Men pictures, and Bohemian Rhapsody.

The Los Angeles County assessor dates the house to 1958. Of the homes it gives a build year along this one road on the headland, 31 went up between 1948 and 1964.

Point Dume was parceled out for housing in the 1940s, and the RECO Land Company, run by Roy Crummer, bought large tracts of Malibu through the 1950s, per Suzanne Guldimann in The Malibu Post.

George Vancouver named the point in 1793 for Father Francisco Dumetz, misspelling it Dume on his chart. Guldimann gives the Chumash word Sumo as the rival root.

Singer bought the place in December 2010 for $8.5M, according to Variety, and the Los Angeles Times reported that the sale closed on Christmas Eve 2020.

According to Variety, Angelina Jolie moved in with her children weeks after her September 2016 divorce filing. The house had been offered as a short-term lease at $80,000 a month.

The tip of the headland is a state natural preserve, and a boardwalk below its summit ends at a platform facing the gray whale migration from December to mid-April.
