Chris Stapleton's House (former)

Kentucky-born Chris Stapleton landed a Nashville publishing deal 4 days after moving to town in 2001. He wrote for Kenny Chesney and George Strait for a decade before Traveller broke him out in 2015.

Metro planners put this neighborhood inside the 5,400 acres of the Belle Meade plantation, dispersed in 1906. Leslie Cheek bought 100 acres of the same ground in 1929 and had Bryant Fleming design Cheekwood.

The county plat index records the first Highlands of Belle Meade sections in January and February 1930, and later sections in 1945 and 1946. Deeds still cite the block and lot from those plats.

County records show a deed recorded in January 2017 carried the place to its current owners. The parcel runs 0.4 of an acre, zoned RS20 for single-family use.

Stapleton did not leave Middle Tennessee. Local news reported in April 2017, weeks after that deed, that he had bought a farm at Leiper's Fork, southwest of the city.

He sang “Tennessee Whiskey” with Justin Timberlake at the CMA Awards in November 2015 and left with 3 trophies, including album of the year. The deed here turned over 14 months later.

In 1927 Luke Lea and his wife, Percie, deeded 817 acres of the old plantation for $1 to build a public park in honor of her father, Percy Warner.
