Drake's House

Aubrey Drake Graham, Toronto born and raised, went from playing Jimmy Brooks on Degrassi: The Next Generation to Spotify’s most-streamed artist of the 2010s. No solo act has charted more Billboard Hot 100 songs.

The Bridle Path was farmland until the Bayview Bridge arrived in 1929. Developer Hubert Page and his designer brother Forsey laid out an estate enclave, named for a planned network of riding trails.

George Montegu Black Jr. built on Park Lane Circle in the mid-1900s and took over the company that owned the surrounding land. His rules went into North York’s by-law: single-family houses, minimum 2-acre lots.

Drake bought the property in 2015 through a Halifax numbered company run by his DJ, Adel Nur. The bungalow came down after a city panel unanimously approved his rebuild in May 2016.

Ferris Rafauli designed the limestone Beaux Arts manor Drake calls The Embassy. The great room rises 44 feet under a Lobmeyr chandelier of more than 20,000 hand-cut Swarovski crystals, the second-largest of its kind.

The canary-yellow lounge shows up in the videos for “Toosie Slide,” “When to Say When,” and “Chicago Freestyle.” Architectural Digest ran a full tour of the house in April 2020.

Past and present residents include Conrad Black and Prince. Mean Girls filmed in the neighbourhood in 2004, and It Takes Two in 1995.
