Eminem's House

Marshall Mathers has performed as Eminem since 1988. His 1999 album The Slim Shady LP made him a star, and “Lose Yourself” won the 2003 Academy Award for best original song.

The township traces to 1782, when missionary David Zeisberger and a band of Moravian converts founded a settlement called Gnadenhuetten on the river that later gave the township its name.

Michigan’s first legislature renamed that river for New York governor DeWitt Clinton in 1837, credited with building the Erie Canal, and the township took the same name soon after.

In April 2020, an intruder broke a kitchen window before dawn and set off the alarm. Mathers first mistook him for his nephew, until the man told police he had come to kill him.

A jury convicted him in 2025 of first-degree home invasion and a second felony for repeatedly pursuing Mathers, tied to a return to the property in 2024. Prosecutors won a minimum 18-year sentence.
