Joe Biden's House
Rehoboth Beach, DE
The Story
The 46th president of the United States, from 2021 to 2025, after 8 years as Barack Obama’s vice president. Before that he spent 36 years as a US senator from Delaware, first elected at 29.
Mansion Global described it in 2017 as a 3-story contemporary at the edge of Cape Henlopen State Park, with ocean views. Built in 2007, it cost the Bidens less than it had sold for that year.
Cape Henlopen State Park was Fort Miles in World War II, an Army post built to guard the shipping channels into Delaware Bay. Its fire control towers still stand, though the fort never fired a shot in defense.
Joe and Jill Biden bought the house in June 2017, months after he left the vice presidency. “Throughout our careers, Jill and I have dreamed of being able to buy a place at the beach,” he said.
By 2020 the house carried 2 signs, AP reported: “Beau’s gift,” for the son Biden lost in 2015, and “Forever Jill,” for his wife.
On February 1, 2023, FBI agents searched the house with Biden’s consent in the classified-documents inquiry. His lawyer said no documents with classified markings turned up, though agents took some handwritten notes for review.
Rehoboth Beach began in 1873 as a Methodist camp meeting ground, planned as a “Christian sea-side resort.” It was incorporated in 1891 as Cape Henlopen City and renamed 2 years later.
