Mark Cuban's House
Dallas, TX
The Story
Tech founder who sold Broadcast.com to Yahoo in 1999 and spent more than a decade as a Shark Tank investor. He owned the Dallas Mavericks from 2000 until selling his majority stake in 2023.
Custom built in 1997 for Dan and Merlene Phillips, who put it up for sale when it was nearly done, CandysDirt reported. A designer told the site they had cut back the finish-out and Cuban upgraded it.
Cuban has said he bought it off a few photos and paid about half price. “I’d never seen the house,” he told GQ in 2022.
The Dallas Central Appraisal District roll records the deed in Cuban’s own name, dated October 1999, with no trust or LLC in between. It merges 2 platted lots into a single parcel of nearly 7 acres.
Preston Hollow began as its own town, incorporated in November 1939 on 79.5 acres at Preston Road and Northwest Highway. Its voters chose Dallas in April 1945, the same election in which the Park Cities said no.
By 2014 Cuban had assembled about 10 acres on the northwest corner of that intersection, CandysDirt reported. Talk of commercial buildings there led council member Jennifer Staubach Gates to freeze major rezonings pending a land-use study.
In 2016 a neighborhood task force advised against any zoning change, People Newspapers reported, and former mayor Laura Miller spoke for keeping Preston Hollow single-family. Cuban’s lots there stayed empty.
