Michael Jordan's House (former)

Highland Park, IL

The Story

Michael Jordan played 15 NBA seasons from 1984 to 2003 and won 6 championships with the Chicago Bulls, in 2 runs of 3 straight. He was named the league's most valuable player 5 times.

Lake County's parcel record dates the house to 1994 and puts about half an acre of the grounds under water. It also carries an effective build year of 2001, the assessor's marker for later updating.

Doors salvaged from Hugh Hefner's original Playboy Mansion in Chicago were built into the house. NBC News noted them in 2013, and Time Out Chicago did again in 2015.

Jordan bought the land in 1991 and moved in during 1994, according to NBC Chicago, the year he spent playing minor league baseball. His Bulls number, 23, is worked into the front gates.

Jordan put the estate up for sale in 2012 at $29M, then sent it to auction on December 16, 2013. Nobody bid the $13M reserve, his spokeswoman Estee Portnoy told reporters.

Jordan sold in December 2024, 12 years after the estate first went up for sale, per Lake County's record. The buyer offered $1M co-ownership shares weeks later, ABC7 Chicago reported.

After the city barred timeshares from single-family homes in September 2025, the owner pitched a for-profit museum at $75 a ticket. CBS Chicago reported the council voted it down in March 2026 over traffic, noise, and safety.
