Phil Collins's House (former)

Miami Beach, FL

The Story

Phil Collins drummed and sang for Genesis, then went solo with 1980s hits like “In the Air Tonight” and “Against All Odds.” He has won 8 Grammys and an Oscar, for Tarzan’s “You’ll Be in My Heart.”

The house went up in 1929, a Mediterranean Revival design by John Bullen, a prolific Mid-Beach architect of the decade. Its first owner was James Hammond of Pittsburgh, per the Miami Design Preservation League.

Jennifer Lopez owned the house from 2002 to 2005 and moved on the year after she married Marc Anthony, Architectural Digest reported. She sold to a businessman, who kept it until Collins bought in 2015.

Collins bought the house in 2015, Fox News reported that June. Broker Nelson Gonzalez counted 80 royal palms, 2 banyan trees, and a 6,000-gallon Japanese koi pond on the grounds.

By October 2020, Collins was in court trying to evict ex-wife Orianne Cevey and her new husband from the house. His lawyer said that month the couple had agreed to leave by mid-January, Fox News reported.

Collins sold in January 2021. The buyer then told Miami Beach’s Design Review Board the 1929 house was “not safe and resilient,” and the city’s preservation board chair opposed its demolition, the Miami Herald reported.

The 1929 waterfront house Lopez and Collins owned has been demolished. Miami-Dade County’s 2026 tax roll classes the lot as vacant residential land, with no building on it.
