Scarlett Johansson's Wong Residence (former)
Los Angeles, CA
The Story
Scarlett Johansson broke out in Lost in Translation in 2003 and went on to play Black Widow across the Marvel films, earning 2 Oscar nominations in 2020. Ryan Reynolds, the Deadpool star, was her husband from 2008 to 2011.
The Wong Residence, a 1969 Buff and Hensman glass house in the Los Feliz hills, became a city Historic-Cultural Monument in 2025. Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds owned it from 2010 to 2012.
The City Council approved the designation in 2025, on an application filed that May. The Eastsider reports it was honored as a noteworthy example of Buff and Hensman’s work in the International Style.
The Eastsider reports it was built for Ronald Wong, a Long Beach dentist, who sold it in 1976. The city’s monument record still carries his name: the Wong Residence.
Johansson and Reynolds, then married, paid $2.9M for it in 2010, according to the Los Angeles Times’ Hot Property column. The Times also identified it as Buff and Hensman’s 1969 Wong House.
The couple divorced in 2011, and in February 2012 Reynolds put the house on the market, asking $3.65M, the Times reported.
A 2013 NBC News real estate column, written by Zillow staff, put the price the couple sold for at $3.5M. It did not name the buyer.
The glass wall faces the view, away from the street, so expect little from the road. It is a private home, and monument status does not open it to visitors.
