Scarlett Johansson's Outpost Estates House (former)
Los Angeles, CA
The Story
Scarlett Johansson starred in Lost in Translation in 2003 and went on to play Black Widow across the Marvel films, with 2 Oscar nominations in 2020. Her mid-2000s run included Match Point and The Prestige.
A 1931 Spanish villa in Outpost Estates, the Hollywood Hills enclave above Franklin Avenue. Scarlett Johansson, the actor who starred in Lost in Translation, owned it from 2007 to 2010.
Johansson paid $7M for the villa in May 2007, buying it from the film director Harold Becker. Lauren Beale, the Los Angeles Times Hot Property writer, named Becker the seller in February 2010.
She put the house up for sale in February 2010, less than 3 years after buying it, asking $4.95M, about 30 percent under her 2007 price.
Spanish property news site idealista, crediting the CNNMoney gallery “Buy Scarlett Johansson’s hilltop manse,” described the villa in February 2010 as restored, with a pool and solar power.
Johansson sold in June 2010 for $4M, about $3M below her 2007 price. Variety recalled the loss in its 2015 report on her purchase of another house, in Los Feliz.
The county assessor’s roll puts the grounds at about three-quarters of an acre and still dates the house to 1931. Its base year, set by a sale, is 2010, the year Johansson sold.
Expect to see little from the road, since walls and a gate screen the villa. It remains a private home with no public access, so stay on the public street.
