Tammy Wynette's House (former)

Tammy Wynette sang 20 chart-topping country singles and took 3 straight CMA female vocalist awards, 1968 to 1970. “Stand by Your Man,” cut in 1968, is still the one everybody knows.

Hank Williams bought the house in 1949. Audrey kept it in their 1952 divorce settlement and stayed on for 2 more decades; he took the Williamson County farm.

The place began as a small wooden structure; Audrey built it into a showplace with an entertainment room, cathedral ceilings, and a stone fireplace. Visiting stars called to see where Hank had lived.

Wynette paid $422,500 for it in 1992 and kept adding on, a full beauty salon among the upgrades. Out back, the pool bar was horseshoe-shaped with an aquarium set into its top.

She died at home here in April 1998, at 55. In 2000 her widower, George Richey, sold the estate to a Nashville book publishing executive who kept his name out of the papers.

Judson Baptist Church, 2 lots away, bought the 3.68 acres in fall 2002 and turned the house into Sunday school space. Metro parcel rolls still list the church as owner.
